Creek Fire Chars Nearly 11400 Acres in Sylmar

Homes on Moraga Drive, Linda Flora Drive, Casiano Road down to Bellagio Road, east of the 405, south of Mulholland Drive, North of Sunset Boulevard and west of Roscomare Road are now under mandatory evacuation orders. Winds were about 15 miles per hour.

So far the fire in Ventura County has burned 31,000 acres and has forced 27,000 thousand people to evacuate.

The Creek fire, reported at 3:42 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, is burning in Kagel Canyon above Sylmar and the Hansen Dam Recreation Area.

Some 105 patients were being voluntarily evacuated from Mountain View Convalescent Center on Fenton Ave in Sylmar, said LAFD, noting that they had no reported injuries from any civilians. The Los Angeles Police Department was on a citywide tactical alert, which allows commanders maximum flexibility in deploying resources. Those in the area were ordered by the Los Angeles Fire Department to evacuate. The area from Sayre Street to the 5 and 14 freeways split was under voluntary evacuation, according to L.A. Deputy Mayor Jeff Gorell.

Students at a variety of Los Angeles Unified School District campuses were affected by the fire, with students diverted to alternate campuses to keep them out of the fire's path.

- for small animals, West Valley Animal Shelter, 20655 Plummer St.; East Valley Animal Shelter, 14409 Vanowen St.; and Sunland Park, 8651 Foothill Blvd, Sunland/Tujunga.

Many schools and local businesses in both counties have been closed. There was no immediate word if classes would resume Wednesday.

LAFD Chief Ralph Terrazas noted that red flag conditions are expected to remain in effect at least through Friday, with gusting Santa Ana winds presenting a continuing danger of rapidly spreading blazes.

Standing in front of 80-year-old mom's house and waiting it out, despite the evacuation, Marcus Pappas, who works in medical device sales, was on hand to organize mom's stuff, and stay on patrol, until the last minute.
