A front extending from northern Florida and off the Carolina coast will hang around through Saturday, and a secondary cold front with colder and drier air will push across the Carolinas from the northwest on Friday, the weather service predicts.
After an overnight low around 31 degrees, Thursday should be another cool day with a high near 41 degrees and more wind gusts, the weather service says.
If the forecast holds, it will deliver the first appreciable snow of the season after trace amounts fell in November, weather service records show.
According to the National Weather Service, "A mixture of rain and snow is expected to develop this afternoon and continue through tonight across a large part of West Central Texas". The high on Thursday will be around 34 degrees with winds gusting up to 24 miles per hour.
SATURDAY: Partly sunny, with a high near 38.
