Shopping centre giants Hammerson and Intu to merge
THE owner of Merry Hill shopping centre has been bought in a £3.4billion takeover by the owners of Birmingham's Bull Ring. Hammerson shareholders will own 55% of the combined firm and Intu investors the rest.
That leaves only Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Besiktas as Chelsea's options.
On the other hand, Italy's A.S. Roma has advanced to the round of 16 as group winners along with Paris St-Germain, despite their 1-3 defeat in Munich.
Real Madrid's possible opponents:Manchester United, PSG, Rome, Liverpool, Manchester City and Besiktas.
But with the January transfer window opening in less than four weeks, a host of Premier League scouts will have been more occupied with casting their eyes over European football's brightest talents. Everton, though, failed to reach the group stages, losing in controversial fashion to Villarreal in the third qualifying phase.
And while Tottenham had the best showing in the Champions League group stage of any club, their success domestically has waned, falling to sixth place, four points out the final Champions League berth.
Round of 16 first-leg games are played from February 13-21.
