PS4 surpasses 70.6 million units; PlayStation VR tops 2 million worldwide

The 2 million PlayStation VR units sold also makes the company a real player in virtual reality, an area that Facebook's Oculus, Steam and HTC's Vive and the Samsung Gear VR are trying to carve out.
What's more, the PlayStation VR headset has now shifted 2 million units worldwide, with PSVR software sales totaling 12.2 million across digital and physical storefronts.
Sony's PlayStation Experience will kick off this Friday in Anaheim, California.
On the flip side, Sony's consoles tend to sell extremely well for long periods of time, while even Nintendo's most-popular console eventually fizzled in sales around year four after the explosive early popularity that propelled it to crossing the 100-million-sold mark turned out to be a passing fad.
