Skirball Fire threatens Getty Center, shuts down 405

A wildfire near the Getty Cultural Center has caused a complete shutdown of the 405 Freeway between the 101 and 10 freeways in Los Angeles, according to Caltrans.

The Rye fire had burned about 5,000 acres and was threatening structures near the Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park with 1,300 homes under evacuation order. This is now the fifth fire burning in the region.

All the fires were driven by the strongest seasonal Santa Ana winds so far this year.

No injuries or structural damage is reported, although some homes in the Bel-Air neighborhood and the Getty Center are threatened. Roads affected include Casiano Road, Moraga Drive and Linda Flora Drive. Officials for the J. Paul Getty Museum said air filtration systems are protecting the galleries from smoke, but the museum is closed to the public Wednesday. Homes in the area were being evacuated, including those on Bundy Canyon Road and Mandeville Canyon Road.
