And while the iconic films have been popular for decades, the 49-year-old actor said he just couldn't get on board with the "crazy scripts" at the time.

In an interview with Variety, the actor said he was set to do "X-Men 2" when his agent approached him about possibly starring as 007.

And that's exactly what happened with the "Bond" series - but Hugh Jackman was told that he wouldn't have a say in the stories so he made a decision to back off. "I just felt at the time that the scripts had become so unbelievable and insane, and I felt like they needed to become grittier and real", says Jackman.

Hugh wanted to continue his work as Wolverine in the X-Men series.

"He said", I was anxious that between "Bond" and "X-Men", I'd never have time to do different things". But Jackman turned down the part and the rest, as they say, is history. "I always tried to do different things", he said.

Joining Jamie and Emma, Hugh chatted about how he owed the public a feel good movie with his latest role as P.T Barnum in "The Greatest Showman", going on to say "after putting out Logan, I had to do something that leaves a semblance of a smile on your face".

While many people would agree with the Les Misérables star's view on the newer versions of the film franchise, he admitted that the film's producers weren't thrilled with his ideas for the character.
