First Alert Forecast: Rain/snow mix possible for far inland areas

Wet ground from previous days rains combined with the rain that will remain mixed in with the sleet and snow should result in any wintry weather melting upon contact with surfaces tomorrow, so travel issues do no look to be a problem here in Southwest Louisiana.

Of course, the big question is going to be do we see any snow accumulations. A few locations will continue have light snow and freezing rain fall overnight but no accumulation is expected and chances of precipitation will decrease as the cold front pushes further south.

The National Weather Service in New Orleans said a winter weather advisory will go into effect at 9 p.m. Thursday and last through noon Friday.

And... a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for parts of southwest Alabama and southeast MS, with 1 to 3 inches possible in the warning area.

AMOUNTS: Snow accumulation should be generally 1 inch or less, mostly on grassy areas and elevated surfaces. Some on the northern edge could see nothing at all, and others on the southern part could see all rain. I have spelled out the most likely scenario, but it's important to remember that there are multiple outcomes in play Thursday night and Friday. If less cold air funnels into the state, we'll have more cold rain and little or no snow.

Take caution while driving as some bridges and overpasses could develop patches of ice overnight while temperatures dip below freezing across the South Plains. With temperatures well above freezing, the sleet will quickly melt on impact. Well, it's a snow forecast in Alabama - so, there WILL be surprises and things that we don't expect.

By this time, temperatures will be falling below freezing - so for more of us this would come through as snow showers.

After seeing highs near 70 on Tuesday, Wednesday afternoon temperatures had dropped into the 40s for most. Despite the sunshine returning, cold air will keep temperatures in the middle and upper 40s both Saturday and Sunday.
