'All signs' pointing to Matt Patricia as Giants head coach

Report: All signs point to Matt Patricia becoming next Giants head coach

Now, a new report is surfacing, and while it also suggests that a Patriots coach could be headed to Jersey, this time it's defensive coordinator Matt Patricia's name that's being thrown around.

The Daily News has learned that all signs are pointing to Matt Patricia, the New England Patriots defensive coordinator with a degree in aeronautical engineering, as the man the Giants will hire to point Big Blue back in the right direction. Mike Florio of NBC Sports reported on Saturday night that the Patriots are "bracing" for Patricia to leave New England and "most likely" head to Detroit. In fact, he is often called a 'defensive genius.'Hold on, Pats Fans....it's not who you think. However, his departure would be a major loss for the Patriots.

Patricia has been with the Patriots since 2004 and took over as defensive coordinator in 2012.

While the Giants look to have their man, they will not be able to officially sign Patricia until the Patriots season ends, which could be as late as February 5, the day after Super Bowl LII.

Patricia and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels interviewed for the Giants job this past Friday.

His look might not scream NY, but his pedigree does. In addition, they still have Eli Manning and a high first-round pick. The NFL coaching carousel sure is spinning with Patricia. Patricia boasts a strong pedigree as the architect of a defense that's helped New England win two of the last three Super Bowls, though, and there's plenty of buzz surrounding him in the Tri-State area.
