Pop star The Weeknd has cut ties with the worldwide retail chain H&M after the company ran an ad featuring a black boy modeling a sweatshirt emblazoned with the words "coolest monkey in the jungle".

The Swedish company was forced to apologize on Monday after its online ad sparked outrage and accusations of racism.

Instagram user, @mrchrisclassic whose adjustment has been shared by more superstars including basketball player, LeBron James explained his rationale for redesigning the image.

A version shared by Manchester United striker, Romelu Lukaku reads "Black is Beautiful" with his caption directed to the yet-to-be-identified child model, reinforcing the message: "You're prince soon to be a king Don't let anybody tell you different ..."

H&M issued this statement on the issue, saying it was an accident.

H&M has been collaborating with celebrities and high-profile fashion designers for years.

"We completely understand the criticism and we agree with it". We appreciate the support of those who have seen that our product and promotion were not meant to cause offence but, as a global brand, we have a responsibility to be aware of and attuned to all racial and cultural sensitivities - and we have not lived up to this responsibility this time.

The image has since been removed from all H&M channels and the company apologised to anyone it may have offended.

While she has taken pictures and videos down, she has not said anything regarding her stance on the situation. It will be recycled. "We'll thoroughly investigate why this happened to prevent this type of mistake from happening again".

We strongly believe that racism and bias in any shape or form, deliberate or accidental, are simply unacceptable. "Please accept our humble apologies". The hoodie has now been taken off sale, and the garments will be recycled.

Many have branded this advert from H&M as "racist".
