Pastor Gets Standing Ovation After "Apologizing" for Sexually Abusing Teen Girl
Янв 10 2018 by Kathy Alvarado
Andy Savage's confession before hundreds of members of the Highpoint Church comes just days after Jules Woodson accused the church leader of sexually assaulting her decades ago while he was youth minister at Woodlands Parkway Baptist Church in Texas.
His request for forgiveness got a standing ovation from the congregation. Woodson says she was embarrassed but cooperated because she thought Savage loved her. Staying vague, the 42-year-old referred to the incident in his early 20s as a sin for which he resigned and is "deeply sorry" and "sorry more was not done".
In his statement to the congregation of Highpoint Church, where he now serves as a teaching pastor, Savage said he "sought forgiveness from her, her parents, her discipleship group, the church staff, and the church leadership, who informed the congregation".
Jules Woodson, the high school senior from the "incident", described in graphic detail to The Wartburg Watch how Savage coerced her into performing oral sex on him on a dark Texas dirt road when he should have taken her straight home to her mother's house.
She also explained that on the night that the incident took place, Savage apparently got down on his knees and apologised, but also told her to keep it a secret.
Mr Savage's upcoming book, The Ridiculously Good Marriage, has been cancelled by Christian publishing company Bethany House following the allegations. He asked me to suck it.
One man wrote, "I support Andy Savage, he was 20. people screw up growing up, even WOMEN". "You have to take this to the grave with you.' He said that several times". In agreement with wise counsel, I took every step to respond in a biblical way.
"An apology does not change the fact that what happened to me was against the law and that it was wrong", she said.
"I did it because I was scared and I was in shock and I didn't understand what was happening", Woodson said. After a few minutes, Woodson says Savage said he was sorry and pleaded with her not to tell anyone. She also said she had spoken to a detective in Texas, although it is unclear whether a statue of limitations would be in effect.
"On behalf of the elders, pastors, staff, and Trustees of Highpoint, I want to affirm that we are 100% committed to Andy, Amanda, and their family and his continued ministry at Highpoint Church".
Andy Savage, a pastor at Highpoint Church in Memphis, admitted to a "sexual incident" with a teenage girl in 1998 during service on Sunday.
On Amazon, where the book was still available for pre-order as of Wednesday, the description calls Savage a "pastor and relationship coach" who "has been in the trenches of marital hardship".
