Syria Denounces Israel's Air and Missile Attack, Shot one Jeet

Explosion reportedly kills at least 23 people

Israel has carried out one of its most substantial attacks on Syria in weeks, with a pre-dawn flurry of airstrikes against an army base and weapons depot outside of the capital city of Damascus.

The army said it shot down some of the missiles, while others caused damage around a military site in the Qutayfeh area.

The statement says several missiles were first launched from inside Lebanese airspace at 2:40 a.m., followed by two more missiles at 3:04 a.m. and four at 4:14 a.m. Israel's security cabinet has held meetings several times in recent days to discuss how it should respond to the "day-after" the war as Syria returns to Mr Assad's control and to Iran's expanded influence in Syria according to Israeli television reports. "We back it up, if necessary, with action", Netanyahu added without confirming or denying attacks were launched inside Syrian territory.

At least 18 people have been killed in a vehicle bomb blast in Idlib, Syria's largest rebel-held city, activists and a war monitoring group said. Backed by artillery and air strikes, Syrian units are fighting Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), formerly known as the al Nusra Front and once the Syrian arm of al-Qaeda, which is dominant in the province.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the gain "opens the road" for government troops to march on the rebel-held Abu Zuhour air base about 12 miles to the north. The Syrian statement said Israel's attack was aimed at supporting terrorist forces, to bolster them after advances of the Syrian army.

Iran, Israel's main enemy, backs Assad in the war along with Russian Federation. The Israeli Army has refused to comment on the incident.
