Cookies will be sold at traditional booths, door-to-door and online. Almost 1 million Girl Scouts participate in the cookie program each year, generating nearly $800 million in sales during the average season.
After last year's 100th anniversary of cookie sales, troops across Nebraska will kick off this season with the return of Girl Scout S'mores. The program runs through March 25. The act of selling cookies is not just about fundraising but also learning skills based in responsibility and independence. Girls and their troops use their cookie proceeds for community service projects, leadership development, camping and outdoor experiences, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs.
"Much of the cookie money goes to Columbus for our council for programming for the girls", said Parsons.
