Pep Guardiola does not expect Philippe Coutinho's big-money move to Barcelona to weaken Liverpool when it hosts his Manchester City on Sunday. Oxlade-Chamberlain said that the Reds played good football even when Coutinho did not play.
I think City have done a great deal to convince everyone that they can defend over the last few months but the doubts I had at the start of the season were fully exposed by Liverpool during the early blows of that game.
"Maybe in the past this club suffered a little too much, like 'wow, how could we [allow those players to leave?']".
'We don't have to replace him.
While the skilful Algerian may not be endowed with Coutinho's unbelievable passing range and ability to dictate the tempo of a game, Mahrez is entering the peak of his career and having spent three seasons in the Premier League, would certainly make an instant impact at Anfield.
"You lose the grip".
"We made that decision". If we'd have said what we could have done - here's your contract, and you have to stay here - it would have been hard to use him in the second part of the season. When I lived here, we liked the city in the way we liked Rio, which is where I am from. Jurgen Klopp maintains that the club won't immediately look to find a player that directly replaces Coutinho.
Souness was surprised Barcelona Real Madrid or Manchester City didn't come in for him
He has insisted that Liverpool can cope without the Brazilian playmaker. But we want to play good football without Phil.
"[In terms of] a replacement, first of all if we have to replace him internally, then we will go with open eyes through this transfer window, but we will not make insane things". At some point, you need to accept it and that is what we did.
After bringing his performance to an end, he adds: "So that's my song anyway, if we were to sing it on The Kop for the City game I'd love it".
"He wasn't ready to do it anymore".
"But that doesn't matter at all actually because we've got Salah, ah Mane Mane and Bobby Firmino but we sold Coutinho".
"He is a player of Leipzig, that's what I know, and will be here in the summer". Stranger things have happened though and the lure of playing at Anfield under the charismatic Jurgen Klopp might just see one of the most surprising deals of all time come to fruition in the coming weeks.
What they do, they do fantastic but the good thing is it's not completely unpredictable.
