Wednesday marked a return to normalcy at the Parkland, Fla., school, as it was the first full day with regular class schedules since the February 14 mass shooting.

"I just had a great conversation with some of the students at Stoneman Douglas High School about some important/impactful things that they have planned".

DE 105.9's Rob Petree reached out to other school districts in Sussex County who have yet to respond with an official statement as to what they plan to do regarding the protest.

"Ultimately, our students do have a right to express their feelings, beliefs and opinions in this matter", he said. "We're not going to get in the way, they won't be counted absent or unexcused".

Butler said the district wants to prevent an "oppositional or confrontational type situation" from happening, and that the district itself must remain neutral on the subjects.

Hardin County Schools students who participate will not face consequences, district spokesman John Wright said. She said Principal Scott Ferguson is coordinating with students to provide them 17 minutes of speaking time in the school library.

Two Palmer police officers were at the walkout, along with Mat-Su Borough School District Superintendent Monica Goyette.
