Jarvis Landry: Signs franchise tender

Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry signs his franchise tender

As reported by multiple sources, the Dolphins are trading Landry to the Cleveland Browns for two draft picks. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the news of the Landry trade.

Cleveland is reportedly discussing a contract extension with Landry to ensure he stays in Cleveland past the one year the franchise tag guarantees.

Earlier this week, Landry signed a non-exclusive franchise tender worth $16 million.

After meeting with Landry's agent at the scouting combine in Indianapolis, the Dolphins gave the wide receiver permission to seek a trade. Last season, the 112 grabs he made led the league, propelling him to his third straight Pro Bowl bid.

The Dolphins placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Landry on February 20, the first day teams could issue the designation to pending free agents.

He was ejected in the Miami Dolphins' season finale against the Buffalo Bills after he was an instigator in a fourth-quarter brawl. Other teams in need of an upgrade at receiver with more tenable cap situations could be willing to meet Landry's demands, so expect the Dolphins to aggressively engage potential suitors while Landry remains the top commodity on the market before free agency opens March 14. Overall, Landry has 400 receptions in four seasons with 22 touchdowns.
