Kathmandu: A US-Bangla Airlines plane carrying 67 passengers on Monday crash landed after catching fire at Nepal's global airport in Kathmandu, officials said. The plane, a twin-engine turboprop, can carry as many as 78 passengers.

Plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from the football pitch where the plane crashed, to the east of the runway at Nepal's only global airport, in the capital Kathmandu. The plane carrying 67 passengers and four crew skidded off the runway while landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). "We just pulled out dead bodies and injured from the debris", government spokesman Narayan Prasad Duwadi told AFP. 5.

"Casualties are feared after a plane crashed at the airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, sending a huge cloud of smoke into the air, say eyewitnesses".

"We are trying to bring the fire under control".

On March 4, a Jessore bound US-Bangla Airline's plane made a safe emergency landing in Dhaka.

Another official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of airport policy, said the flight was arriving from Dhaka, the Bangladesh capital.

Officials said there were suspected "technical glitches" which made the plane "unstable" as it landed.

US-Bangla Airlines is a unit of the US-Bangla Group, a US Bangladeshi joint venture company.
