The auditions keep rolling SUNDAY 8|7c as American Idol's journey continues on America's network, ABC!
American Idol kicks off its brand new season with a new set of judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan. "There's no dismissing and just sending off and saying, 'You suck.' That's not how we roll. Simpson: The Lost Confession?", which was based on a 12-year-old interview. "We need those lovely stories right now to help lift us up, inspire us, and believe in ourselves again". Her original song, "Never Stop", which was, in fact, one sentence, "The devil never stops coming after you", was delivered with such powerful ferocity that it overpowered the panel. Rather, they tell them that they should try again next time.
Bryan also chimed in and said they are empathetic and "emotional" more times than not.
At Disney Springs in Orlando, Florida, we get a taste of the best and worst Idol has to offer. But while Katy respected his story, she couldn't get a grasp on who he is as an artist. "We have moments where we're softies", he said.
Idol was always the best of the singing competition shows and, at least in the USA, the form's progenitor. In fact, it is the lowest rated Idol premiere in show history.
As Glaze went in for a peck on the cheek, Perry turned her head at the last second so he could plant a kiss on her lips. "I think in the past there was some of that and maybe taking advantage of people..."
"I've always thought that she was special. They are so out of control", he said. So, the only familiar face (that you saw in the previous seasons) is Ryan Seacrest, who has been hosting the show since its conception in 2002. The host only uttered minimal one-liners throughout the premiere.
Fresh off a stint on a Disney cruise, Jennifer Hudson stunned the judges with her confident rendition of Aretha Franklin's "Share Your Love with Me", which Jackson said was the best he'd heard in the show's three seasons so far. Coming up next, yet another contestant from our area, Mara Justine from Galloway, N.J. gets her chance to sing for the judges Monday night.
