Two Congress legislators were on Wednesday suspended for an unprecedented three years from the Gujarat Assembly and another for one year for assaulting other members over a demand for a discussion on the death of two children in Sabarmati's Asaram Ashram in 2008.
It all started when Congress member Vikram Madam tried to raise a point of order during the Question Hour. However, the Speaker disallowed the point of order after which Congress MLA Ambrish Der joined Madam and questioned his ruling. Following this, Congress legislators Ambrish Der and Virji Thumar rushed to the well and raised objection with the Speaker. Speaker Rajendra Trivedi also barred the three MLAs from entering the Assembly complex or taking part in its proceedings. Suddenly, Congress legislator Pratap Dudhat rushed towards BJP legislator Jagdish Panchal with a microphone from one of the desks and tried to hit him, missing him narrowly.
Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel raised a point in the assembly to which Congress MLA Vikram Madaan wanted to speak but was denied by the speaker.
Dudhat's action created a furore in the House, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Jagdish Panchal commented on Der which offended him and the latter went to the Well of the house, broke the mic and threw it at Panchal.
Following the incident, Amrish Der was surrounded by BJP MLAs and was kicked and slapped the Congress lawmaker. Other Congress MLAs staged a walk out in protest against the decision.
Jim Bowen, 'Bullseye' host, dies at 80
He told BBC Radio Lancashire in 2017, "I watched seven hours of Ken Dodd and I watched him completely decimate 7,000 people". But he found fame with the much-loved ITV show Bullseye . "I'd look at that photograph and say, 'Jim, you're a lucky lad'".
The speaker later suspended two Congress MLAs Pratap Dudhat and Amrish Der for three years, the longest ever in the state's history.
Later, speaking to media persons, Dudhat alleged that he was being targetted by the treasury benches and abuses were being hurled at him for over a week.
After the attack on Panchal, the speaker suspended Dudhat for the rest of the ongoing Budget Session.
The Congress MLAs later met in the chamber of Leader of Opposition Paresh Dhanani for almost an hour. For the last six to seven days, BJP MLA Jagdish Panchal has been uttering bad words and using foul language against me in the House.
