J&K: Two militants killed in encounter with security personnel in Anantnag

Two local militants of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces. PTI

Two terrorists were gunned down in an encounter between security personnel and terrorists in Anantnag's Dooru area that started Friday night.

"As the cordon was tightened, the militants fired at the security forces triggering a gunfight in which two ultras were killed", he said. "Operation concluded", tweets J&K DGP SP Vaid. "Today morning two bodies of terrorists have been recovered along with two AK-47s, pistols, grenades and arms and ammunition".

"In an overnight gunfight in Dooru, two militants were killed in a fierce gunfight with contingents of police and army", a police spokesman said. "The identity of the slain terrorists has been established", said the official adding that one of them was Ashraf Maulvi, a Hizbul terrorists active in the area for quite some time.

An encounter ensued between militants and security forces in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, official sources said on Saturday morning.

Late on Friday night, police had confirmed that there was some exchange of fire reported from the area. According to reports, hundreds of youth shouting pro-freedom and anti-government slogans assembled near the encounter site and pelted stones at the security forces.
