The bipartisan House Resolution 1865, also known as the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act of 2017, allows victims of sex trafficking to hold websites accountable for knowingly facilitating sex trafficking.
Language in FOSTA states that the "Communications Decency Act of 1996 was never meant to provide legal protection to websites that unlawfully promote and facilitate prostitution and websites that facilitate traffickers in advertising the sale of unlawful sex acts with sex trafficking victims".
"In my time as Attorney General, I have taken many steps to stop human trafficking and have worked with my law enforcement partners to pursue swift and decisive action against those who are engaged in this modern form of slavery", said Schuette.
"Backpage.com, a classified ad listing service, was seized by the Department of Justice for "knowingly facilitating" prostitution ads as well as covering up sexually trafficked children while publicly pretending to do something about it", she charged.
