65th National Film Awards announced

65th National Awards Winners List Sridevi Rajkummar Rao's Newton Vinod Khanna Taapsee Pannu's Ghazi Win Laurels

The late Sridevi was on Friday named the Best Actress posthumously for her role as a vengeful mother in the Hindi film "Mom".

Sridevi died on February 24 in a hotel in Dubai due to "accidental drowning". The awards jury was headed by Shekhar Kapur, who directed her in one of her most famous roles "Mr India".

The National award for best actor has gone to Riddhi Sen for his stunning performance as a transgender in Kaushil Ganguly's Nagarkirtan. Her acting was lauded by critics unanimously and also won Zee Cine Best Actress Award. What came as a pleasant surprise was the Best Actress award.

In the regional film category, Ladakh film was named the best regional film while critically acclaimed film "Newton" bagged the Best Hindi film award.

The winners of the awards were announced today, with Sridevi being declared as Best Actress for Mom - a film which marked her 300th performance on film. Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman won two Awards for Best Music Direction for "Kaatru Veliyidai" and Best Background Score for "Mom".

Last year, Syam Pushkaran won the award for Best Screenplay (original) for Maheshinte Prathikaram.

The jury was headed by director Shekhar Kapur.

"Tolet", directed by Chezhiyan won the Best Film in Tamil.
