Warm temperatures, strong winds fuel fire danger across state

Weather conditions in several eastern Kentucky counties turned risky Thursday, April 12, as the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning due to fire risks. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. "Take precautions, and plan ahead now to avoid any activities that could create a flame or spark".
A red flag warning has been issued for several counties in the eastern part of Kentucky.
Wind gusts of 15 to 25 miles per hour will be common throughout southside Virginia, and into the Piedmont of North Carolina this afternoon.
The city and surrounding areas are on high alert for potential fire activity today and authorities are urging people to use extra caution with anything that could be an ignition source.

Locally in Seminole on Thursday, patchy blowing dust is anticipated after 1 p.m, otherwise, local residents can anticipate sunny skies with a high near 92. The warning means that the chance of wildfires is unusually high.
"Any fires that develop or are ongoing will likely exhibit rapid and erratic growth and behavior", the weather service website said.
