DA Demands De Lille Explain Her Attendance At EFF Event

Speaking to TimesLIVE on Wednesday‚ EFF leader Julius Malema also denied that De Lille may be joining his party.
City of Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille gestures during a service to pray for her at World Harvest Ministries on January 14, 2018 in Langa, South Africa.
The Democratic Alliance's Patricia De Lille said we should always remember the important role the Winnie Mandela played in the fight against apartheid. "A courtesy call to alert the DA about her attendance would have been welcomed", Nt'sekhe said.
DA's Free State Provincial Leader, Patricia Kopane, was in attendance to commemorate Mama Winnie and to pass on condolences.
DA chairperson of the federal council‚ James Selfe‚ had earlier said de Lille would have to explain herself but the EFF's Floyd Shivambu accused the party of targeting De Lille.
Selfe said there were other scenarios where politicians appeared on the platforms of other parties, but the individual would usually inform the party, which De Lille had not done, he said.
She said: "In 2000 in Durban, when we had a government led by then President Thabo Mbeki who believed HIV/Aids did not exist, we marched together in Durban with Mama Winnie to demand ARVs for our people".
De Lille meanwhile was unavailable to comment on the issue at the time of publication, telling News24 she was in a meeting.
"The problem is not with De Lille attending; it is with her not following protocol".
During her address, De Lille may have justified her appearance in Brandfort, as she quoted Madikizela-Mandela in dismissing her crossing off party lines.
The party will therefore formally ask for an explanation as to her reasons for attending, he said.
The party refused to be drawn into mud-slinging as they are still mourning the death of Madikizela-Mandela.
