"Russian Federation will demand a meeting of the U.N. Security Council, I think, for sure", Dzhabarov, who is the deputy head of Russia's foreign affairs committee, was quoted by RIA as saying.
The pretext of the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government in Douma for the Western missile strikes is "speculative", the statement reads. A strike was carried out on the capital of a sovereign state, which for many years has been trying to survive under the threat of terror, ' Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
According to data of Russia's Defense Ministry, the missile strike against Syria's military and civilian infrastructures was carried out by U.S. planes and naval ships in cooperation with British and French air forces between 03:42 and 05:10 Moscow time on Saturday.
"First, the Syrian people were subjected to Arab Spring, then Islamic State, now to "smart" American missiles", says Ms Zakharova, according to Russian state media RT.
She described the strikes against Syria carried out by the United States, the United Kingdom and France as a new attempt to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
"All responsibility for them rests with Washington, London and Paris".
Anatoly Antonov, the Russian Ambassador to the USA, says the military action threatens Russia - and there will be consequences. "We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences", says a statement from Mr Antonov published on RT.
"Insulting the President of Russian Federation is unacceptable and inadmissible", he added.
The air strikes on Syria are a violation of worldwide law and are likely meant to prevent investigators from the global chemical weapons watchdog from doing their work, a senior Russian lawmaker was quoted by Interfax as saying on Saturday.
"It's also highly likely an attempt to create complications for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons mission which was just starting its work in Syria's Douma, or an attempt to completely derail it", Mr Kosachev was quoted as saying.
Separately, Russia's Defence Ministry said the majority of missiles fired during the overnight attack on Syria by U.S., British and French forces were intercepted by Syrian government air defence systems, TASS news agency reported.
