C.J. Anderson

The team is releasing the running back, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported on Monday, according to a source informed of the decision.

Anderson is coming off the best season statistically in his career.

With Anderson no longer on the team, Denver's running back room now consists of Devontae Booker and De'Angelo Henderson, both of which combined for 312 rushing yards previous year.

This comes days before the National Football League draft on April 26.

When asked last month about whether veterans Anderson and cornerback Aqib Talib would return for 2018 as the Broncos looked to clear cap space, GM John Elway gave a non-committal answer, saying "We'll see".

The Broncos signed Anderson as an undrafted free agent in 2013. With Denver likely unable to find another deal, they finally chose to cut him.

Anderson rushed for 1,007 yards on 245 carries with three touchdowns.

Anderson put together five solid seasons in Denver but never truly cemented himself as a reliable featured back. If not, the Dolphins are content with Kenyan Drake, Frank Gore and possibly selecting a running back in next week's draft.
