Captain Kane Williamson led from the front with a solid fifty as Hyderabad shrugged off initial wobble to beat Kolkata by five wickets in their IPL match here on Saturday. He returned with the bat to slam a 21-ball 27 in the company of a sturdy Kane Williamson and helped Sunrisers move to a comfortable win. Billy Stanlake took two wickets- Nitish Rana (18 runs off 16 balls) and Andre Russell (9 runs off 5 balls) and Shaqib took the wicket of Chris Lynn (49 runs off 34 balls) and Sunil Narine (9 runs off 10 balls).
KKR had reached 52-1 from the seven overs before a rain delay, during which Robin Uthappa (3) was given out caught behind to Bhuvneshwar on review, and Rana became the first man in this year's event to hit Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan for six. It was Williamson who looked more comfortable against the KKR bowlers. Can KKR be the first team to defeat SRH this season, or will the visitors make it three in three? Well played Shakib Al Hasan and Yusuf Pathan!
He then sent back Dinesh Karthik just as the Kolkata skipper was starting to threaten and added one more to finish with figures of 3/26 in yet another disciplined performance. Uthappa was striking the ball crisply before he was run-out, and Dinesh Karthik has successfully played the anchor role in both the innings'. Earlier, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc was ruled out ahead of the tournament due to a calf injury.
The Aussie Pack: The Queenslanders shined in the Gardens, Billy Stanlake taking out top honours whilst Chris Lynn top scored for his franchise in a losing cause. After the CSK game, the way they have come back, all three bowled well for us so I am very happy with way the spinners bowled. Russell has been bowling with good pace as well, but reports of him sporting a hamstring supporter during training sessions cast his bowling into some doubt.
