Safdar terms firing at Justice Ijazul Ahsan's residence 'cheap tactic'

Two separate firing incidents were reported at the residence of Supreme Court Justice Ijazul Ahsan on Sunday

On Sunday, gunshots were fired at the house of Justice Ahsan twice within the span of a few hours.

CJP Nisar rushed to Justice Ahsan's home and personally monitored developments after learning about the attack.

A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has been constituted to probe two separate attacks at the house of Justice Ijazul Ahsan in Lahore's Model Town.

A first information report (FIR) was consequently filed against unidentified persons, with charges comprising attempted murder as well as a violation of the anti-terrorism act. Additional IG Muhammad Tahir is heading the probe.

According to the preliminary observations of the Crime Scene Unit (CSU), the first shot that hit the main gate of the house could be a stray bullet which was sacked from a distance and was on the final stage of its parabolic trajectory.

"All stakeholders should ensure [a] secure environment for [the] effective functioning of the state institutions and continue the efforts to consolidate improving peace and stability".

Anwarul Haq, President Lahore Hight Court Bar, has called the incident an attack on Judiciary.

Ahsan was a member of the bench which heard high profile Panamagate case against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and ultimately disqualified him.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan took to Twitter to condemn incident. He was part of the five-member bench that disqualified the ex-premier in the Panama Papers case a year ago.
