Swachh Bharat rankings: Bhopal continues to be second best

Indore has bagged the title of the cleanest city in India, followed by Bhopal and Chandigarh, according to a government cleanliness survey.
Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad was adjudged the "fastest mover big city" in this survey. The union government's results for the cleanliness survey for the current year were out on Wednesday. The survey was conducted for all state capitals and Mumbai was declared most clean capital city. The news of Chandigarh being ranked as the third cleanest city of India in 2018 has brought cheers to the residents of Chandigarh. One of their other unique experiments included installation of a huge Radio at Roshanpura square.

While Nagpur has not made it to the top three clean cities, it has succeeded in getting the first position in India's Best City in "Innovation & Best Practices" category of Swachh Bharat Sarvekshan 2018. The Swachh Bharat Survey was conducted in February this year.

Past year the government's cleanliness survey was conducted in 434 cities, but this time, Bhopal had to compete with 4203 cities across the country to retain its position.
Compared with the 2017 survey of 434 cities, the scope of this year's survey was increased manifold, said the minister, adding that feedback from 37.66 lakh citizen was collected and 53.58 lakh Swachhata Apps downloaded.
The results of Swachh Survekshan 2018, which aims to estimate the levels of cleanliness across cities in the country, were announced by Minister of State for Housing Hardeep Singh Puri today. Several chaupals were organised across the city for the goal where the Mayor interacted with residents and appealed them to keep their surroundings clean. The civic body had focused on ODF status for which along with public toilets, modular toilets were also placed across the city.
On the establishment front, more staff was recruited for garbage collection, new vehicles have been purchased and dumping of garbage at designated spots has been disallowed.
