University Malaya breaks into Top 100 World University Ranking

SOUTHERN Cross University has been named as one of the world's top 100 "young" universities in 2018 according to the latest rankings released this week.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Aidan Byrne said this latest QS World University Rankings underscored UQ's formidable global standing in the world of higher education. The top six ranked universities are in the United States and in the United Kingdom.
MIT was followed by three other American universities-Stanford, Harvard and California Institute of Technology or Caltech.
UNBC is the only university in British Columbia included in the rankings and one of only four Canadian universities on the list.
In a statement today, UTP also said it is the first and only private university in Malaysia to be given a maximum five-star overall rating in the QS Stars University Rating System.
The UK is second with 23 representatives, up four from previous year.
"The results this year that saw a continuous drop in the ranking of the worldwide staff indicator further deepened the university's concern of its plan to expand its talent pool".

Monash is now ranked second in the world for Pharmacy and Pharmacology, only behind Harvard, in the QS 2018 World University Rankings by subject.
In fact, with the University of Cape Town in 200th spot, Africa is on the precipice of not having any HEI represented in the top tier.
Russian Federation also showed evidence of consistent improvement and greater competitivity, with 70% of its 27 ranked universities improving their positions and only one falling.
Australia remains in third position on the global scale, with five institutions in the top 50 globally.
The QS rankings are based on the expert opinion of 83,877 academics and 42,862 employers, in addition to the analysis of 13 million papers and 67 million citations to measure the impact of the research produced by the universities ranked. Over 65 million stakeholders will view the rankings on www.topuniversities.com this year, QS said.
The University maintained its ideal score of 100 in the "International Faculty" ratio, which measures International faculty staff per 100 faculty members.
