The 29-year-old Kohli is also the lone Indian on the annual list of the world's 100 highest paid athletes, published by Forbes magazine on Wednesday. "The Notorious" was No. 24 on last year's list, earning $34 million.
Other women who previously featured were tennis players Li Na, now retired, and Maria Sharapova, who was kicked out of the ranks past year after a drug suspension.
While the time off Williams took for pregnancy and maternity leave affected her total take-home, the same is not true for the fathers on the list, who could still compete during their partners' pregnancies.
Mayweather's fight with UFC star Conor McGregor last August ensured he reclaimed top spot from Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo with earnings of $285 million. That sends a particularly disturbing message to female athletes everywhere, suggesting that women are financially punished for going on maternity leave.

In the Australian Financial Review's Top 50 Sports Earners list from late a year ago, David Warner was the leading cricketer with an estimated AU$4.73m, putting him 12th overall.

It is noted that in the "World's Highest-Paid Athletes 2018" list the 41-year-old Mayweather, with Dollars 285 million earnings topped. American Football was the next most-represented sport with 18 players, followed by baseball with 14 and football with nine.
