Trump says he ordered his representatives not to sign G7’s final communique

Trump Attacks Trudeau, Macron, Allies Ahead of G7 Summit: 'Won't Be Talking About the Russian Witch Hunt Hoax for a While'

Friday morning he was spitting again: "Canada charges the US a 270% tariff on Dairy Products!"

Before arriving at the Quebec summit, Trump injected fresh drama by asking why Russian Federation wasn't included in the group.

Trump did not specify which of Trudeau's statements he considered false.

The Trump administration last week imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, the European Union and Mexico, prompting retaliation and casting a shadow over a G7 summit in Canada that appeared likely to end without consensus.

And more: "Looking forward to straightening out unfair Trade Deals with the G-7 countries".

After two days of often fierce arguments between the United States and both the summit hosts and Europe, the organisation issued a joint statement which attempted to paper over their cracks.

Earlier Saturday, Trump said he had floated the idea of countries dropping all import barriers, saying he would do the same in return. He reiterated his longstanding view that the USA has been taken advantage of in global trade, adding, "We're like the piggy bank that everybody's robbing, and that ends". And what of China's foreign direct investment into the United States? "I would say the relationship is a 10", he said, referring to leaders from Germany, France, and Canada, respectively.

Kudlow sought to tie Trump's reaction to the upcoming summit with Kim Jong Un, saying the North Korean leader "must not see American weakness".

Now, leaders from the G-7 and elsewhere face a string of trade decisions that will either preserve the existing global economic system or reshape it, with millions of jobs and trillions of dollars hanging in the balance.

Trump addressed the subject of global trade during an impromptu news conference at the summit on Saturday, saying that he does not want to see other countries take advantage of the U.S. over trade.

Speaking at his closing news conference, Trudeau says the G7 has agreed to an "ambitious" communique - but he did not immediately release a document or provide details of where the exclusive club of wealthy democracies found common ground.

So at the G7 in Charlevoix, Quebec on Friday, some were speculating whether when he shook Trump's hand with a grip so firm the U.S leader was left with white marks, he was showing how he really felt. He reiterated his longstanding view that the USA has been taken advantage of in global trade, adding, "We're like the piggy bank that everybody's robbing, and that ends".

Xi Jinping gave Vladimir Putin a giant gold "best friend" necklace
In a symbol of close China-Russia ties, Xi on Friday gave China's first friendship medal to Putin. Other leaders attending this weekend's G7 summit rejected Trump's idea.

Trump delivers warning on trade as he leaves G-7 summit
Despite his sharp differences with US allies, the president insisted he has a "great relationship" with his foreign counterparts. Bannon said China is "now on notice that Trump will not back down from even allies" complaints in his goal of "America First'".

But photos of the meeting revealed the obvious tension between Trump and the other leaders, and show a president who appears to be isolated. "#G7Charlevoix", Merkel posted on Instagram with a photograph of her and Macron staring down Trump, who sat with his arms crossed as others looked on.

She said: "If there are to be any conversations about Russia's future in relation to this particular group, they have to change their ways, they have to change the route that they are taking and the sort of activity they are involved in".

Trump answered for Trudeau with a joke: "He's happy".

Over the course of the summit, the President pushed the narrative that the U.S.is a victim of a trade imbalance, though European leaders rejected these claims.

"Nevertheless, I do not consider that with a declaration all is obtained and it is obvious that we will have in the coming weeks, the next months, to continue to work", Macron told reporters. He said gender equality must "cut through" everything the G-7 does.

"If you tax trade through tariffs there's no guarantee that domestic sources will replace it, plus the loss of trade undermines competition, it reduces productivity, it removes the incentive to innovate, and makes everyone poorer", the official said. "I might have had a very different" response, Trump said.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte - a rookie populist who's been on the job only a week - fuelled the disharmony amongst the G7 by tweeting his support for the US president's position. He added that the USA will take the necessary steps to protect industry and workers from unfair practices.

"That doesn't mean I agree with what they are doing, and they know very well that I don't". To United States, frankly, it would be a good thing but I'm not looking to do that. In 2016, Canada imported dairy products from the U.S. worth five times more than the small amount it exported there.

In Trump's first public remarks on Canadian soil, he once again reiterated his desire for separate trade deals with Canada and Mexico, instead of the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Discussing Russia's absence, Trump made the vague comment that "something happened a while ago where Russia is no longer in".

"It was not contentious", Trump said.
