DPRK, US leaders hold historic meeting in Singapore

Meeting with staged ceremony on a Singapore island, Trump and Kim came together for a summit that seemed just unthinkable months ago, clasping hands in front of a row of alternating USA and North Korean flags, holding a one-on-one meeting, additional talks with advisers and a working lunch.
Heavy security and armed police are standing guard at summit-related venues across the city state.
The summit has officially begun, with Trump and Kim shaking hands and posing for photographs.
The sitting leaders of North Korea and the United States have never met before.
He is scheduled to meet Kim for the first time at 9 a.m.
President Trump has said the best-case scenario is not going to resolve all these issues. Choe is the Vice Foreign Minister for the North Korean Foreign Ministry. The North Korean leader, in his mid-30s, might not have even looked out of place at Marina Bay Sands had it not been for his distinctive striped Mao suit and his massive security entourage.
A peace treaty ending the Korean War, complete denuclearisation of North Korea or will it be just an elaborate get-to-know-you session? Seoul announced last week it was in three-way talks with Pyongyang and Washington for an "early" declaration that the war is over.
What worked: The 2000 summit came roughly two years after Kim Dae-jung introduced the so-called "Sunshine policy", an initiative created to improve relations between the Koreas.

President Moon played an important role in breaking the ice between Trump and Kim and played his role in paving a way for this historic summit. "If they don't denuclearise, that will not be acceptable". "Or is this a cyncial exploitation of his moment in the limelight where he can. fool the world into some sort of agreement while in some mountain in North Korea his scientists continue to do some [nuclear] work?" he asked.
A formal end to the Korean war may also be discussed.
From Kim's nuclear arsenal to normalising ties between the two decades-old foes, these are the issues facing the two leaders at what Trump has called a "one-time shot" at peace.
The sides first spoke through intelligence channels, with USA analysts working to determine Kim's true willingness to abandon a nuclear program started by his grandfather and viewed by Pyongyang as a security blanket from outside aggressors.
The summit with Trump is the culmination of months of posturing and negotiating between top United States and North Korean officials and comes less than two weeks after Trump reversed his decision to scrap plans for the meeting, which is set to take place in Singapore.
"Today, we had a historic meeting and made a decision to leave the past behind", Kim said through a translator. Raising human rights risks playing into North Korean suspicions that the U.S is intent on toppling its hereditary, totalitarian regime by seeking to open its political system, which only reinforces Pyongyang's notion that it needs a nuclear deterrent to ensure its survival. Meanwhile, Mr Kim has called Mr Trump "mentally deranged" and a "dotard".
Talks proceeded at multiple levels, including logistical discussions to allay Kim's fears of being deposed while traveling further afield than he ever has before as the country's leader.
Former U.S. National Basketball Association star Dennis Rodman arrived in Singapore late on Monday for the summit, saying he was "excited to be part of it", although there has been no indication he would be involved in any official talks. "If Trump gets something about this, it will boost his agenda".
