Why Meghan Markle stood behind Kate Middleton for her balcony debut

Statement PM Delighted Over Prince Harry And Duchess Visit

When Meghan Markle made her first Buckingham Palace balcony appearance as a member of the Royal Family on Saturday, she did so standing behind her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton.

Since 1748, Trooping the Colour has also marked the official birthday of the British sovereign.

No matter where she stood, Markle was hard to miss as she looked radiant in a pale pink off-the-shoulder dress by Carolina Herrera, which she paired with a matching hat by London-based and royal favorite designer Philip Treacy.

Meghan, who honeymooned with hubby Prince Harry at a mystery location, will join the head of state in Cheshire on Thursday in what is being seen as a very public endorsement.

"I do feel her choice of an off the shoulder dress was pushing it for HRH Queen Elizabeth's Birthday celebration", wrote another on social media. "I have a feeling she's going to push the limits a little too much?!" But that's how things roll in the royal kingdom-in that order.

"(Meghan) was not as prominent perhaps as some people might have expected, but there's a pecking order", Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, told People magazine. "[Meghan] was still in a good position".

A palace source says Meghan's balcony position "would have come from her".

The younger brother of Prince William apparently helps Meghan out when it comes to what to wear so she dresses like a modern royal and doesn't necessarily follow the strict royal fashion rules involving hemlines, necklines and such like.
